Bombers Sign Local Talent
The Bombers have signed Dubois County natives Derek Katter and Brett Merkley for the 2009 summer. Katter, a graduate of Jasper High School will man the outfield. Merkley, who spent his high school days at Forest Park, joins the Bombers as a right-handed pitcher. For more information, vist the news tab at the top of the page for the release.

Estand played in 24 games at Eastern Illinois University and started 14 times, primarily at third base… played a prominent role in the walk-off win against Morehead State in the OVC opener, knocking in the game-tying run with a single and scoring the game-winning tally… a three-run homer in the series finale against Morehead allowed him to collect five of his eight RBIs in OVC play… four of his five hits on the spring break were doubles… went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the second of the two wins against Bucknell in Florida.

Estand lettered in baseball and football, playing baseball for coach Mike Zunica, at SRHS… earned All-Catholic League honors in both baseball and football… Illinois Prep Baseball Report Top 50 prospect… helped lead St. Rita to the Elite Eight round of the IHSA Baseball State Tournament as a senior… was a member of the IHSA Class 7A state football champions in 2006… won Catholic League titles in both baseball and football during his high school career… also played for the Illinois Sparks summer league team.
