Bombers Bring Broughton On-Board
June 3, 2009 - The Bombers have signed the versatile Jared Broughton for the summer of 2009. Broughton is a product of Lutheran High School in Indianapolis and joins the Bombers by way of the Vincennes University Blazers.
Broughton jumped back and forth this past spring between the infield and outfield for the Blazers. He lit up the opposition this spring finishing with a .349 average and leading the team with 11 home runs, 13 doubles, and 58 RBIs. Broughton has a selective approach to hitting and the numbers prove it. He walked 26 times for Vincennes this past spring which led the team.
While in high school he really made a name for himself starring as a three -sport athlete. But he excelled on the diamond above all, especially in 2007. As a junior that year he hit .605 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .728. The impressive part is that he did it all in only 81 at-bats and struck out only six times!
"I'd like to think of myself as more of a power hitter that can also hit for average," said Broughton. "But if I had my choice, I'd crack a double in the gap every time and just leg it out."
Broughton's position durability should make him an everyday kind of guy as he can move all over the diamond. Don't be surprised to find him all over the field this year, or for him to make the opposing pitchers look foolish at the plate.

Barrett joins the team from Middle Tennessee State University where he led the team with a staggering .383 batting average in 57 games played. Before he played at MTSU, Barrett played two seasons at Olney Central CC where he batted .300 with three home runs, 35 RBIs and 15 stolen bases as freshman. He was drafted by the Florida Marlins in 43rd round as third baseman after his freshman season.
"Barrett will provide a wealth of experience for these guys," said manager Brain Smiley. "Coming right out of college, he'll be able to relate well to the players."
Grant Bellak will also join the Bombers coaching staff this summer. Bellak was a two-year starter Waubonsee Community College and batted .340 as a sophomore and was 6th in the nation in steals the very same season. He was a member of
the Skyway All-Conference First team and came only six outs from making the Division III College World Series.

Bruns and Garcia to Join Bombers Lineup;
Bombers' Season Ticket Holder Picnic on May 31. May 26, 2009 - The Dubois County Bombers of the Prospect League (formerly the CICL) have signed catcher
Eric Bruns and outfielder
Anton Garcia to the 2009 roster. Bruns, a 6' backstop from the Creighton Blue Jays will be part of a two-man rotation at catcher for the Bombers this summer. Bruns started his career as a shortstop/pitcher but was moved behind the plate when his team's backup catcher at Sauk Valley Community College became injured. He was part of the Arrowhead Conference Champions his freshman year. In 2007 was named the Most Improved Player at SVCC and in 2008 was named First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-Region.
"Bruns is a catcher who should come to Dubois County hungry and ready to contribute to the team," claims assistant g.m. Jace Gonnerman. "He was outstanding as a sophomore at SVCC and should continue that level of play with the Bombers.
Garcia comes to the Bombers by way of Bellarmine University. Anton started 31 games for the BU Knights and hammered out 7 extra base hits and 17 RBI in 101 at-bats. In 2007, Garcia batted .303 with seven doubles, two triples, and 20 RBI for the Region XIV Texarkana College Bulldogs.
"Garcia is a player who's poised for a breakout summer," said Gonnerman. "He is one of the most gifted athletes the team has ever seen, and if he's able to put it all together, watch out."
The team will rely heavily on the contribution of these two players if they want to contend to bring home a Prospect League Championship in 2009.

Two More 2008 Bombers Return
May 22, 2009 - The Dubois County Bombers of the Prospect League (formerly the CICL) are bringing back two pitchers in
Joe Ochs and
Chad Edwards for the 2009 season.

He also ran a streak of 27 consecutive innings spanning nine games without allowing an earned run. He posted a 1.67 ERA in 16 appearances for the Bombers in 2008. Ochs was redshirted in 2009, allowing him to return to the Bombers for a second season.
"Joe is a big lefty who was dominant out of the bullpen in 2008," said assistant general manager Jace Gonnerman. "He suffered an injury early on this year but should be at 100% for the summer."
Chad Edwards re-joins the Bombers after a solid season for Middle Tennessee State University. He boasts a 7-1 record in 12 games, including a complete game shutout in 2009 and is among the team leaders in strikeouts with 34. Edwards looks to improve upon a great 2008 season for the Bombers, where he went 3-1 in 9 starts with an impressive 2.83 ERA.
"By the numbers, Chad was our best starter in 2008," said Gonnerman. "After enjoying a strong season at MTS he will be an anchor in our rotation in 2009."

Bombers Bolster Pitching Staff
May 19, 2009 -
The Dubois County Bombers of the Prospect League (formerly the CICL) have strengthened their pitching staff for the 2009 season with the signing of pitchers Travis Lamar and Darin Worman.
Lamar, from Evansville, Ind., is back for his third season with the Bombers. In 29 career appearances, the 6-foot-6, 230-pound right-hander has a 5-6 record and a 4.30 ERA. Lamar has a 3-4 record in 19 games, including nine starts, this spring at Wright State University. He spent his first two collegiate baseball seasons at Olney Central Community College. In 2008, Lamar went 7-3 with a 1.94 ERA for the Blue Knights. He was a 44th round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2006. Worman, from Dieterich, Ill., makes his Bombers debut this summer. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound left-hander is 3-1 with a 3.79 ERA in 13 games this spring at Parkland College. He also has two saves. Worman did not allow an earned run in 46 innings pitched during his senior season at Dieterich High School. "We're adding two quality pitchers in Travis and Darin," said Assistant General Manager Jace Gonnerman. "Travis has been steady throughout his entire Bombers career. He was a huge factor during our championship run in 2007, picking up the win in the championship-clinching game. He's a leader and he's experienced. We are so glad Travis is back for another season in Dubois County. Darin was unbelievable his senior season in high school and has also been very impressive in his first year at Parkland. He has a fastball in the high 80s and two good off-speed pitches. Darin will contribute right away."
