Bombers Sign Local Talent
The Bombers have signed Dubois County natives Derek Katter and Brett Merkley for the 2009 summer. Katter, a graduate of Jasper High School will man the outfield. Merkley, who spent his high school days at Forest Park, joins the Bombers as a right-handed pitcher. For more information, vist the news tab at the top of the page for the release.

SUMMER (2008):
Put together an outstanding summer for the Bombers...made 10 appearances including eight starts...posted a solid 3.55 ERA in 45.1 innings pitched...finished fifth in the CICL with 51 strikeouts...won the CICL/KIT League home run derby in July...showed himself to be fully recovered from past arm trouble by flashing a fastball that was consistently clocked in the low 90s...combination of size and velocity has drawn legitimate professional interest.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2008): Made four appearances and had seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings...posted a 1.59 ERA...struck out five batters in 2.0 innings March 7 versus Northern Iowa.
AS A FRESHMAN (2006): Saw action in 11 games on the mound and one as a designated hitter...first collegiate hit was a double March 18 at Pacific...had six strikeouts in 11.0 innings with a 6.55 ERA...had three strikeouts in 2.2 innings versus San Francisco May 9.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At Monterey High School was a preseason All-American, second-team all-state and All-Monterey Bay League as a senior, batting .518 with six home runs, and 10-2 with three no-hitters on the mound...was rated the nation's eighth-best first baseman by Team One Baseball after an outstanding junior season...was named the 2004 Monterey Bay League Pitcher of the Year, going 11-3 with a 1.91 ERA, and had 136 strikeouts in 88.0 innings...also hit .659 with 15 home runs, tying the Central Coast Section home run record...was named to the All-Central Coast Section team, and was named the 2004 Junior Player of the Year by the San Jose Mercury News...majoring in American studies...parents are Tom and Clare Bugary...born October 11, 1987 in Boston, Mass.
