Bombers Sign Local Talent
The Bombers have signed Dubois County natives Derek Katter and Brett Merkley for the 2009 summer. Katter, a graduate of Jasper High School will man the outfield. Merkley, who spent his high school days at Forest Park, joins the Bombers as a right-handed pitcher. For more information, vist the news tab at the top of the page for the release.
2010 Internships

The Dubois County Bombers baseball club will hire six to eight interns for the 2009 summer. The Bombers pride themselves on running a dynamic and involved internship that helps students as they make the jump from the classroom to the real world. All interns will be exposed to real-world problems and carry out tasks such as marketing, public relations, media communications, customer service, finance, and more. Interns will receive training on expectations and operations.

All Internships are unpaid. Interns may, on occasion, be offered the opportunity to sell group nights and other special events and earn commission or work an outside part time job.  Pre approved expenses incurred are reimbursed.  The Bombers will work closely with the student to ensure college credit when applicable. Host families are available for those students who do not live in the Southern Indiana area.

All Interns will share these responsibilities:

• Cover the office during regular business hours Monday – Friday. Duties will include but are not limited to answering telephones, sales activities, ticket and merchandise sales, receiving deliveries, relaying messages, assisting walk in customers and following up on and returning phone messages. Typically one intern per half day or full day is needed. A weekly schedule will be prepared with the interns rotating office coverage.
• Arrive on time during game days to prepare adequately for your assignments.
• Keep the office neat and clean. Take out the trash as needed.
• Bring notice to any problem in the stadium. Learn stadium light operation.
• Clean the restrooms when assigned.
• Take responsibility and pitch in to help others when needed. Give positive realistic suggestions that will improve our efficiency, public image and promote the betterment of the organization.
• Be aware of each of the other intern’s responsibilities as much as possible in case they are unavailable to work. Work together to create backup plans.
• Be organized and clear in all your assignments. Ask questions if needed.
• Report back to your schools in a timely manner to complete your internship requirements as needed. Feel free to ask us for assistance with any assignment.
• Arrange and coordinate mascot public appearances inside and outside the ballpark and assist the mascot as needed.
• Any intern that is accepted into the Bomber Internship Program but is not local will be provided a Host Family.
• Each intern will receive a written report pertaining to their overall work ethic, performance and grade of their work.

PROMOTIONS AND ON FIELD ACTIVITIES INTERN
• Coordinate on field games/promotions
• Line up prizes for Between Innings Contests
• Communicate with corporate sponsors and groups prior to and after their night
• Guide and assist national anthem singers and ceremonial first pitch before the ballgame. Prepare introduction scripts
• Coordinate with the merchandise people to ensure that winning numbers on the Lucky Winners Board (near the Merchandise Stand) are up to date

GAME DAY INTERN
• Sell tickets/souvenirs as needed.
• Collect tickets at gate entrance as needed.
• Sell 50/50 Half Pot raffles as needed.
• Sell Game Day programs as needed.
• Work in concession stands as needed.
• Assist with field maintenance as needed.
• Perform office cleanup/errands as needed.

MEDIA RELATIONS INTERN
• Write press releases for each game and distribute to all media
• Develop relationships with all local media outlets - newspapers, radio stations, television stations and Prospect League broadcasters. Provide score updates to all Prospect League media outlets during home games and all local media outlets during away games.
• Coordinate with visiting team broadcasters on press box availability.
• Prepare Game Day Program - including new notes, compilation of stats, team records and sponsorship information.
• Update the public address announcer’s book and cards for home games -sponsorship information/contests, recognizing special attendees -groups/organizations, players’ parents, birthdays as well as 50/50 raffle group or benefitting organization.
• Arrange positive media coverage through interviews with players and coaches. Get prior approval of Field Manager on time, place and length of interview. Create story ideas that pique the interest of newspaper and media outlets.
• Coordinate post game interview(s) following radio broadcast for player or coach.
• Acquire and distribute data for the All Star Game
• Provide information requests to League Office in a timely manner (i.e. same day).

PRESS BOX /PA ANNOUNCER INTERN
• Monitor all press box activities including official scorer, radio broadcast, telecommunications, scoreboard operator, and public address announcer.
• Prepare/Receive PA Announcement Scripts, Ads, etc
• Show creativity by selecting family friendly ballpark music and sound effects
• Have an efficient way to obtain music that is requested by owners and staff.
• Train backup for duty if necessary
• Work with Media Intern on stats and game day program preparation as needed.

TICKETS AND SOUVENIRS INTERN

• Organize preseason tickets sales to individuals, groups and fund raising organizations.
• Oversee, control, and reconcile advance and game day ticket sales.
• Manage merchandise inventory – count, restock as needed and setup souvenir sales stand.
• Coordinate with Stadium Operations signing of baseballs and bats for resale and delivery to corporate sponsors.
• Coordinate the 50/50 Half Pot raffle during the game.
• Coordinate with outside groups that sell game day programs and 50/50 Half Pot raffle or collect tickets at gate entrance. Give each group a reporting time of 1 hour and 45 minutes prior to game time. Assign at least 5 people to 50/50 raffle and 7 to other jobs – taking tickets, selling programs. Train workers for all assignments and monitor and immediately correct any sub par performances.
• Reconcile, count and report on all money related to ticket sales, merchandise and 50/50 raffle.

STADIUM OPERATIONS AND EVENTS INTERN
• Monitor all aspects of League Stadium including seats, signs, lights, field maintenance, bathrooms, player’s locker rooms, dugouts, concession areas, coach’s room, umpires dressing room, business office, all portable coolers, walk in coolers, ice machines, and surrounding areas.
• Voice Contact umpires during day preceding next game. Greet and escort umpires before game and cater to after the game.
• Help coordinate equipment and uniform needs for team.
• Assist with baseball camps registration activities – assign name tags to campers and run concessions during camp. Coordinate with coaches/staff on prizes/giveaways on final day of each camp.
• Plan, oversee, and coordinate special events, birthday parties, picnics, and corporate outings.
• Oversee and coordinate little league teams that show up to shag during batting practice.
• Assist and arrange visits by VIP’s assuring the best time available.
• Monitor signage around stadium for corporate sponsors as needed.
• Monitor bathroom advertising signage and change it prior to the next game.
• Change and update League Standing’s board prior to each game.

CONCESSION MANAGER INTERN
• Oversee all operations of food and drink sales including ordering, preparation, selling, cash registers, and clean up.
• Help and organize employees to run all stations concessions, beer sales, and vendors.
• Efficiently manage time of hourly employees and provide completed time sheets to office manager following each game.
• Prepare work schedule and notify employees in advance of their schedule work dates/times.
• Prepare post game inventory of all remaining food and beverages.
• Rotate perishable stock to ensure freshness and limit loss of inventory.
• Time the cooking of food so it does not go cold or become inedible.
• Ensure that all coolers are filled and restocked for the next game.
• Prepare and place all separate corporate coolers and prepare invoice following game.
• Prepare Popcorn Closing Sheet and have manager write check to Kiwanis for their portion of popcorn sales.
